Violin op.39,
after Guarneri del Gesu's "Kochanski" 1741

Instrument description

This violin is inspired by Guarneri del Gesu's "Kochanski" from 1741 — one of the most significant violins of the master's last, perhaps finest period (1740–1744), remarkable for its excellent state of preservation and near-untouched varnish. The instrument belonged to the Polish violinist Paweł Kochański until his death in 1934, later to the violinist Aaron Rosand, and sold in 2009 for around €7.3 million.

The instrument is finished with an oil varnish. Magdalena Zajacová plays the violin.
