Overview

On the international stage

For a maker, entering a competition is both a test and an inspiration — a chance to measure your own work against the finest instruments made today.

Oleg Semenukha regularly takes part in international violin-making competitions, where his violins and violas are assessed by leading experts from around the world.

Among the most important are the Antonio Stradivari Triennale in Cremona (the cradle of violin making), the International Violin Making Competition in Mittenwald, Bavaria, and the Étienne Vatelot competition in Paris — one of the most prestigious violin-making competitions of its time, now sadly discontinued.

In 2010 he placed 22nd out of 353 entries in Mittenwald, in 2011 he took 16th place at the Étienne Vatelot competition in Paris, and in 2012 he placed 10th for viola at the Cremona Triennale as well as 4th at the Věnceslav Metelka violin-making competition in Náchod. In 2025 he then placed 3rd for tone and was the second-best Czech participant at the international competition in Prague.
