Violin op.46,
after Carlo Bergonzi's 1731

Instrument description

This violin is inspired by Carlo Bergonzi's model from 1731. Bergonzi was the third major Cremonese master of the period alongside Antonio Stradivari and Guarneri del Gesù — unlike them, he had no famous violin-making ancestry, yet around 1730 he became renowned for his masterpiece violins. His reputation still ranks just behind Stradivari and Guarneri del Gesù.

The instrument has an antiqued varnish, imitating a heavily worn finish.
