Viola op.72,
after G.B.Guadagnini viola 1785

Instrument description

This viola is inspired by G. B. Guadagnini's model from 1785, from his late Turin period — one of the last instruments he made before his death in 1786.

Giovanni Battista Guadagnini (1711–1786) is considered the founder of one of the most important Italian violin making dynasties. Over his career he worked successively in Piacenza, Milan, Parma, and finally Turin, where he created his most mature works. Unlike many of his contemporaries, he did not merely copy his predecessors but developed his own distinctive style.
