Cello op.61,
after A.Stradivari model

Instrument description

This cello is inspired by the model of Antonio Stradivari — his so-called B form, which he first used in 1709 at the request of patrons seeking a smaller, more manageable instrument. The same form later produced the famous 'Duport' (1711) and 'Davidov' (1712) cellos.

The B form gradually became the standard for a generation of leading 18th- and 19th-century cellists, and it remains the model used by the vast majority of cello makers today.
